SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
720 ILCS 335/1   from Ch. 121 1/2, par. 157.13

    Amends the Marks and Serial Numbers Act. Exempts removing, altering, defacing, covering, or destroying a firearm serial mark from a violation of the Act. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT in relation to criminal law.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Marks and Serial Numbers Act is amended by
5 changing Section 1 as follows:
 
6     (720 ILCS 335/1)  (from Ch. 121 1/2, par. 157.13)
7     Sec. 1.
8     Any person who removes, alters, defaces, covers or destroys
9 the manufacturers' serial number or any other manufacturers'
10 number or distinguishing identification mark upon any machine
11 or other article of merchandise, other than a motor vehicle as
12 defined in Section 1-146 of The Illinois Vehicle Code or a
13 firearm, for the purpose of concealing or destroying the
14 identity of such machine or other article of merchandise shall
15 be guilty of a Class B misdemeanor.

17     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
18 becoming law.
