 1        AN ACT concerning firefighting.

 2        Be  it  enacted  by  the People of the State of Illinois,
 3    represented in the General Assembly:

 4        Section 5. The State  Fire  Marshal  Act  is  amended  by
 5    adding Section 10 as follows:

 6        (20 ILCS 2905/10 new)
 7        Sec. 10. Fire equipment and hazardous materials equipment
 8    grant  program.  The  Office  of the State Fire Marshal shall
 9    administer a fire equipment and hazardous materials equipment
10    grant program. The program shall provide grants to  units  of
11    local  government  for  the  purchase  of  fire equipment and
12    equipment for handling hazardous materials. The Office  shall
13    determine  eligibility  for  the  grants  based  on  need, as
14    determined  by  the   Office.    The   grants,   subject   to
15    appropriation,  shall  be  paid out of moneys appropriated to
16    the Office for that purpose.  The Office shall adopt rules to
17    administer the grant program.

18        Section 99.  Effective date.  This Act takes effect  upon
19    becoming law.
