 1        AN ACT in relation to imprisonment.

 2        Be it enacted by the People of  the  State  of  Illinois,
 3    represented in the General Assembly:

 4        Section   5.   The Unified Code of Corrections is amended
 5    by changing Section 3-8-1 as follows:

 6        (730 ILCS 5/3-8-1) (from Ch. 38, par. 1003-8-1)
 7        Sec. 3-8-1.  Receiving Procedures.
 8        (a)  The Department must  shall  establish  one  or  more
 9    receiving  stations  for  committed  persons  and for persons
10    transferred  under  Section  3-10-11  and  shall  advise  the
11    sheriffs of the several counties  of  the  location  of  such
12    stations.  In  the execution of the mittimus or order for the
13    commitment or transfer of a person  to  the  Department,  the
14    sheriff  shall  deliver  such person to the nearest receiving
15    station of the Department. The sheriff shall also convey with
16    such person at the time of delivery, the items under  Section
17    5-4-1,  and  a  record of the person's time, his behavior and
18    conduct while under the sheriff's custody.
19        (b)  The Department shall  verify  the  identity  of  the
20    person  delivered  before accepting custody and shall require
21    delivery of the items under paragraph (a) of this Section  or
22    a statement of the reason why they cannot be delivered.
23        (c)  The  Department  shall inventory and issue a receipt
24    to such person for all money and other personal property  not
25    permitted to the possession of such person.
