SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Helen Cornwell of Georgetown, who passed
4away on February 28, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Helen Cornwell was born in Catlin to Frank and
6Lucy (Chop) Kovack on September 18, 1924; she graduated from
7Georgetown High School; she married Homer "Junie" Cornwell in
8Georgetown on May 10, 1947; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Helen Cornwell worked at the Vermilion County
10Courthouse in the Circuit Clerk's office and the County Clerk's
11office for over 20 years; she became Vermilion County Auditor
12in 1976 and served for 12 years; one of the highlights of her
13political career was attending the Democratic National
14Convention in Atlanta, Georgia in 1988 as a representative of
15Illinois; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Helen Cornwell was an active member of the
17community; she was a member of the Vermilion County Democrats
18and the Danville Business and Professional Women (BPW); she
19also served on the Georgetown Township Board and the Vermilion
20County Housing Board; she was a member of St. Isaac Jogues
21Church in Georgetown and the Altar & Rosary Society; and

1    WHEREAS, Helen Cornwell was preceded in death by her
2parents; her husband, Homer; and her brothers, Frank and Joseph
3Kovack; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Helen Cornwell is survived by her daughter, Kathy
5Galyen; her son, Gregory (Lynn) Cornwell; her brother, Robert
6(Ruby Ann) Kovack; her grandchildren, Derek (JoAnne) Galyen,
7Kurtis Galyen, Justin (April) Cornwell, Adam Cornwell, and
8Aaron Cornwell; her great-grandchildren, Jasmine, Grayson,
9Vivian, and Everett; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Helen Cornwell and extend our sincere condolences to her
13family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Helen Cornwell as an expression of
17our deepest sympathy.
