HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Adlai E. Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire on being designated a 2019 National Blue Ribbon School by the United States Department of Education; and

WHEREAS, The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognizes public and private elementary, middle, and high schools where students perform at very high levels or where significant improvements are being made in student academic achievement; and

WHEREAS, Adlai E. Stevenson High School previously received this honor in 1986, 1990, 1997, and 2001 and is now one of only six schools in the country and the only school in Illinois to earn this distinction five times; and

WHEREAS, Adlai E. Stevenson High School has thrived under the leadership of Superintendent Eric Twadell, Principal Troy Gobble, and District 125 School Board Members Heena Agrawal, Steve Frost, Gary Gorson, Sunit Jain, Terry Moons, Amy Neault, and David Weisberg; and

WHEREAS, Adlai E. Stevenson High School is recognized with this distinct honor because of its deep focus on social and emotional learning in students, a shift away from traditional grading practices toward a standards-based system, and an expansion of academic support services for students struggling in their courses; and

WHEREAS, The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program also recognized Adlai E. Stevenson High School's success in moving to a later school start time each morning, providing more fitness choices to students in physical education courses, and overhauling food and drink offerings in school cafeterias to reduce added sugars and simple carbohydrates; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Adlai E. Stevenson High School on being designated a 2019 National Blue Ribbon School, and we wish the faculty, staff, and administration many more years of success and service to the children and families of the community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Adlai E. Stevenson High School as an expression of our esteem and respect.
