HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Leon C. Cosey Jr., who passed away on March 21, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Leon Cosey Jr. was born in Beulah, Mississippi to Irene Alexander and L.C. Cosey on October 19, 1944; he graduated high school from the Nugent Center School in Benoit, Mississippi; in 1966, he relocated to North Chicago, where he met Cheryl Y. Toney, and they married on October 29 of that year; in 1967, he committed to his faith and began a life of service to his church and his community; and

WHEREAS, Leon Cosey Jr. left his career in the security field to work in the ministry full time; he served in many capacities, including the transportation ministry, the Deacon Board, the ministerial staff, and the District Sunday School, where he was also superintendent; he continued his education with the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Trinity Assemblies of God College, where he received his certificate of completion, and Logos Bible College, where he received his Bachelor of Ministry degree; and

WHEREAS, Leon Cosey Jr. established the Love Temple Church of God in Christ on June 7, 1981, which eventually became the Love Temple International Christian Center; he also established the Taking it to the Street Ministry, the Love Temple Bible College, the A Time to Love Ministry, the Love Temple School of Ministry, and the Macedonia Call, later renamed the Body of Christ No More Walls; he was also elected president of the United Ministries of Christ and served for over ten years; in September 2000, he was ordained an Apostle of Jesus Christ and was made a member of the Apostolic Counsel for Lake County, where he served until his death; and

WHEREAS, Leon Cosey Jr. was preceded in death by his parents and one of his brothers; and

WHEREAS, Leon Cosey Jr. is survived by his wife, Cheryl Y. Cosey; his children, Bonetha (Arlander) McGee Nelson, Mark A. Cosey, Pastor Roland P. (Keisha) Cosey, Leon C. Cosey III, Milana T. (Jesse) Cosey-Green, and MiToyia L. (Jordan) Cosey; his brother, Bishop Wells (Trudy) Griffin; his 15 grandchildren; his five great-grandchildren; his three sisters-in-law; his two brothers-in-law; and his many nieces, nephews, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Leon C. Cosey Jr. and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this presentation be presented to the family of Leon Cosey Jr. as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
