Synopsis As Introduced
Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that the county board of a county may determine and declare by ordinance a reduction in the maximum speed limit at any place or along any part or zone of a county highway whenever the county board, in its sole discretion, determines that the reduction in the maximum speed limit is appropriate.

Senate Committee Amendment No. 1
Provides that a county board may not declare a reduction of a maximum speed limit until it receives an engineering study for the part or zone of highway in question from the county engineer. Provides that the county board must determine that the reduction in speed is reasonable and safe (rather than appropriate).
