Synopsis As Introduced
Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that a vehicle or combination of vehicles that otherwise would be subject to a gross vehicle weight limit of 80,000 pounds is subject to a gross vehicle weight limit of 80,400 pounds if the vehicle, or the towing vehicle of the combination of vehicles, is equipped with an auxiliary power unit for idling reduction that is in working order. Makes corresponding changes with regard to applicable registration fees and taxes.

Deletes language providing that a vehicle or combination of vehicles that otherwise would be subject to a gross vehicle weight limit of 80,000 pounds is subject to a gross vehicle weight limit of 80,400 pounds if the vehicle, or the towing vehicle of the combination of vehicles, is equipped with an auxiliary power unit for idling reduction that is in working order. Provides that any vehicle utilizing an auxiliary power or idle reduction technology unit in order to promote reduction of fuel use and emissions because of engine idling, shall be allowed an additional 400 pounds total to the gross, axle, tandem, or bridge formula weight limits. Provides that certification is required to be eligible for this exception. Makes corresponding changes with regard to applicable registration fees and taxes.
