Synopsis As Introduced
Amends the Illinois Physical Therapy Act. Makes changes in the educational requirements for licensure as a physical therapist and a physical therapist assistants. Provides that the programs of study must be accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (rather than approved by the Department). Effective immediately.

Replaces everything after the enacting clause. Amends the Illinois Physical Therapy Act. Makes changes in the definitions of "physical therapy" and "referral". Adds definitions for "advanced practice nurse" and "physician assistant". Requires that a physical therapist use the initials "PT" in connection with the physical therapist's name and a physical therapist assistant shall use the initials "PTA" in connection with the physical therapist assistant's name to denote licensure under the Act. Adds provisions regulating the contents of advertisements. Makes changes in the provisions concerning disciplinary grounds and civil penalties. Provides for referrals from and diagnoses by advanced practice nurses and physician assistants. Adds criminal penalties for advertising using words, abbreviations, figures, or letters indicating the practice of physical therapy without a license. Effective immediately.
