Synopsis As Introduced
Amends the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District Act. Rewrites and simplifies the provisions relating to veteran's preference. Provides that veterans are entitled to a preference of 5 points to be added to their final grade on any promotional examination held on or after the effective date. Deletes a provision prohibiting a person from receiving a veterans' preference more than once. Deletes a provision that a person entitled to a preference does not have to furnish evidence of honorable discharge from the armed forces before the examination. Effective January 1, 2004.

House Committee Amendment No. 1
Entitles persons currently serving in the National Guard or Reserves or who were honorably discharged from any branch of the United States military to certain veterans' preferences concerning employment with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District. Removes a provision requiring the person entitled to those preferences to have served on active duty.
