Synopsis As Introduced
Amends the Criminal Code of 1961. Makes technical changes in a Section concerning the short title.

Senate Committee Amendment No. 1
Deletes reference to:

Deletes all. Amends the Criminal Code of 1961. Provides that the commission of a battery on a person known to be a sports official or coach at any level of competition and in which the act causing harm to the sports official or coach occurred within an athletic facility or within the immediate vicinity of the facility at which the sports official or coach was an active participant in the athletic contest held at the facility is aggravated battery. Provides that the penalty is a Class 3 felony. Creates the offense of criminal trespass to the playing field of a professional sports team. Provides that a violation is a Class A misdemeanor. Amends the Unified Code of Corrections. Requires a person convicted of or placed on supervision for either violation to undergo an alcohol or drug abuse evaluation. Also provides for mandatory minimum fines for a violation of these offenses. Effective immediately.

Senate Floor Amendment No. 2
Includes in the offense the battery of a participant of one of the teams in the athletic contest or an employee of the team. Changes the trespass offense to criminal trespass to the playing area of a professional sports team. Provides that the mandatory minimum fines and drug or alcohol treatment requirements do not apply if the person committing the battery is a participant, coach, or sports official.

Senate Floor Amendment No. 3
Provides that the amendatory changes to the aggravated battery provisions do not apply if the person committing the battery is a participant, coach, or sports official.
