Synopsis As Introduced
Amends the School Code. Requires school districts to employ receptionists who are on duty at all times during the regular school day to answer telephones at the district's administrative offices and attendance centers. Prohibits the use of answering machines, voice mail, or similar devices to respond to incoming telephone calls at an administrative office or attendance center. Amends the State Mandates Act to require implementation without reimbursement. Effective immediately.

Fiscal Note (Illinois State Board of Education)
It is unclear how many districts use some form of automated telephone attendant and therefore what it will cost to comply with this requirement. The approximate cost of House Bill 477 is $13.4 M assuming each district will require one new receptionist at approximately $15,000 per year.
