Synopsis As Introduced
Amends the Medical Practice Act of 1987 to allow a physician licensed to practice medicine in all its branches to delegate the use of a rigid and flexible endoscope to a speech-language pathologist that is licensed under the Illinois Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Practice Act. Amends the Illinois Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Practice Act to include the use of rigid and flexible endoscopes within the definition of "the practice of speech-language pathology". Effective immediately.

Replaces everything after the enacting clause. Amends the Medical Practice Act of 1987. Makes a technical change in the short title provision. Effective immediately.

Amends the Illinois Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Practice Act to include the use of rigid and flexible laryngoscopes for the sole purpose of observing and obtaining images of the pharynx and larynx within the definition of "the practice of speech-language pathology". Sets forth the requirements that must be met in order for a speech-language pathologist to use a rigid or flexible laryngoscope. Defines "physician". Effective immediately

House Floor Amendment No. 3
Makes changes in a provision allowing for the use of a rigid or flexible laryngoscope for the purpose of training or research provided that certain conditions are met.

House Floor Amendment No. 4
In a provision concerning the requirements for the use of laryngoscopes, provides that nothing in the provision shall apply to the practice of speech-language pathologists in a hospital or hospital affiliate.
