SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Dean R. Grimm of Morton, who passed away
4on June 17, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dean Grimm was born in Peoria on November 23, 1943
6to William, Jr. and Eula (nee Yoder) Grimm; he graduated from
7Morton High School and attended Southern Illinois University in
8Carbondale; he served with the United States Army Reserve
9during the Vietnam War and married Sara F. (nee Parker)
10Haferkamp on January 15, 1971 in Morton; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Dean Grimm began working in the family business,
12Grimm TV & Appliance; he eventually purchased the business from
13his father and owned, operated, and managed stores in Morton,
14Washington, Bloomington, and Peoria; during those years in
15business, he traveled around the world with General Electric,
16RCA, Zenith, Fisher-Paykel, and other companies; he joined the
17Marta Buying Group of US Appliance Dealers, eventually becoming
18Vice-President of the board and serving on it until his
19retirement from the Grimm TV & Appliance, which existed for 78
20years; he retired in 2000 at the age of 56 and began a career in
21realty and property development; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Dean Grimm served on the Morton Planning

1Commission; he was active in the Rotary Club for years and also
2the Morton Chamber of Commerce, serving 3 terms as chamber
3President; he was elected to the Tazewell County Board in 1996,
4serving for 19 years; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dean Grimm was preceded in death by his parents,
6and his 2 brothers, Jack and Ronald; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Dean Grimm is survived by his wife, Sara; his
8children, Cristi (Doug) Schaffnit, Cesli (Gino) Vaccaro, and
9William Derek (Jenna) Grimm; his 8 grandchildren, Katie (Paul)
10Velting, Lindsay Mathers, Kelly Schaffnit, Ryan Schaffnit,
11Isaiah Vaccaro, Rachel Vaccaro, Myah Grimm, and Zach Grimm; and
12his sister, Diane Grimm; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Dean R. Grimm, and extend our sincere condolences to his
16family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Dean Grimm as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
