SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Warren F. Craig of Normal, who passed
4away on May 26, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Warren Craig was born in Fairbury on December 24,
61920 to Will and Georgia Craig; he served in the United States
7Army during World War II; after the war, he graduated from
8Illinois State Normal University (ISU) and earned a master's
9degree from the University of Illinois; he married Joybelle
10Dickey in 1946; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Warren Craig served as Unit 5's first reading
12coordinator; he taught speech, English, reading, and drama in
13Lincoln, Bloomington, and Normal; he also operated Craig Canvas
14Service for more than 50 years; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Warren Craig was an active member of the North
16Bridge Baptist Church in Normal; he held many church offices
17and was part of the American Baptist men's disaster relief
18team; he formed the first neighborhood association in Normal
19and assisted other neighborhoods to do the same; he and his
20wife became the first off-campus ISU student housing providers
21to integrate their rented rooms; they later hosted many
22international students and, in return, were welcomed visitors

1to homes in Japan and Germany; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Warren Craig enjoyed using his dramatic talents
3for the benefit of the McLean County Historical Society, the
4Masons, and the Retired Teachers Association; the first local
5Habitat for Humanity warehouse started in his garage; he wrote
6and published a newsletter for his camping club; in recognition
7of his contributions to the community, Normal named him its
82006 Citizen of the Year; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Warren Craig was preceded in death by his
10brothers, Sterling and Willard, and his sister, Jean Sutter;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, Warren Craig is survived by his wife, Joybelle;
13his sister, Helen Fecske; his children, Dr. Barbara
14Craig-Schniepp, Shirley (James Robinson), Linda (Rodney Reed),
15and Paul (Inyoung); his granddaughters, Dr. Sara Robinson (Dr.
16Matt Powers), Julia Robinson, and Elizabeth Craig; and his
17great-granddaughter, Scout Robinson Powers; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20Warren F. Craig, and extend our sincere condolences to his
21family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
