SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Gene Petersen of Bloomington, who passed
4away on January 31, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gene Petersen was born on March 8, 1925 in
6Chicago; his parents were Harry and Eugenia Fagan Petersen; he
7married Cathryn Hemmele on May 1, 1945 in Bloomington; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Gene Petersen was a graduate of Trinity High
9School (now Central Catholic High School); and
 
10    WHEREAS, During World War II, Gene Petersen was a pilot of
11a B-17 Flying Fortress; he flew 35 combat missions over Europe
12and was a 5-time recipient of the Air Medal; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Gene Petersen retired from General Electric in
141988 after many years of service; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Gene Petersen was a member of Holy Trinity
16Catholic Church and had been active in many parish
17organizations, including the St. Raphael Society, the
18Christian Family Movement, Pre-Cana, and the Boy Scouts; he was
19also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American
20Legion; and

1    WHEREAS, Gene Petersen was preceded in death by a brother,
2Harry Petersen, and a son-in-law, William Hundman; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Gene Petersen is survived by his wife, Cathryn; 7
4children, Eugene (Karen) Petersen, Jim (Helen) Petersen, Steve
5(Anne) Petersen, Cathy Hundman, John (Toni) Petersen, Mike
6(Joan) Petersen, and Margie (Brian) Knutson; 18 grandchildren;
723 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Conroy; and a brother,
8Tom (Margaret) Petersen; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
11family and friends, mourn the passing of Gene Petersen; and be
12it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Gene Petersen as an expression of
15our sympathy.
