HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Ronald L.
4Allen of Naperville, who passed away on December 2, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ronald Allen was born in Chicago on July 18, 1943;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, Ronald Allen founded the A. Allen Insurance Agency
8in Chicago's Austin community after graduating from Chicago
9State University; he had previously worked for the United
10States Postal Service and as a business teacher at King High
11School in Chicago; he was one of the first African American
12insurance agents for the Allstate Insurance Co. in Chicago, and
13maintained an affiliation with them for 42 years, retiring in
142009; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Ronald Allen was a social activist in DuPage
16County; he spent his retirement active in the DuPage County
17Democratic Party and founded the Unity Partnership outreach
18group to foster trust and goodwill between police and county
19residents; he served as a precinct committeeman in Naperville
20Township and was an active member of the DuPage County NAACP;

1    WHEREAS, Ronald Allen was an active member of the DuPage
2AME Church in Lisle and served on the DuPage Diversity steering
3committee; he served on the DuPage County Crime Stoppers Board
4of Directors, the Chicago State University Alumni Board, and
5the National African American Insurance Association Board of
6Directors; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Ronald Allen hosted his own radio show, "The
8Financial Forum", that aired on WVON-AM; he enjoyed the game of
9Whist so much that in 2014 he wrote a book, "The Evolution of
10Bid Whist", which not only offered playing strategy but traced
11the history of the game to the Civil War; he was an avid
12Chicago Cubs fan; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Ronald Allen is survived by his wife, Carol; his
14children, Keith, Mark, and Vera; and his granddaughter,
15Jasmine; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
17NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
18mourn the passing of Ronald L. Allen, and extend our sincere
19condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
20him; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Ronald Allen as an expression of our
