HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Michael G. Horstman has faithfully and tirelessly
3served as Executive Director of the Illinois Optometric
4Association for the past 24 years; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Michael Horstman's advocacy, guidance, and
6leadership during his tenure have helped to transform optometry
7in Illinois into a full scope primary eye care profession
8through the successful passage of diagnostic, therapeutic, and
9oral legislation; and
 
10    WHEREAS, The citizens of the State of Illinois owe Michael
11Horstman a debt of gratitude for his work in developing
12improved and timely access to eye care; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Michael Horstman was instrumental in the creation
14of legislation mandating comprehensive eye exams for all
15Illinois children as they first enter school; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Countless numbers of Illinois children are now
17able to see properly and are effectively equipped to read and
18learn as a result of his efforts; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Michael Horstman's impact on the profession of
20optometry has extended beyond the State of Illinois through his

1contributions to the North Central States Optometric Council,
2as chair of the Association of Optometric Executives, and
3through his service to various committees of the American
4Optometric Association; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Michael Horstman has been a lobbyist held in
6highest regard amongst his peers as well as the Illinois
7General Assembly; he has been a key contact for numerous
8legislators and a tireless proponent of optometry in
9Washington, DC at AOA Congressional Advocacy Meetings; and
 
10    WHEREAS, The scope of Michael Horstman's accomplishments
11has been recognized by many others, he was recently awarded the
12Illinois College of Optometry's Presidential Medal of
13Achievement; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Michael Horstman is also a recipient of the Virgil
15Deering Award, the highest honor that can be bestowed upon an
16Executive Director of a state optometric association and a
17testament to the successful and enduring impact of his service
18to the profession; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
20NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
21congratulate and thank Michael G. Horstman for his many years
22of professional accomplishments and extend our best wishes to

1him for a happy and healthy retirement; and be it further
 
2    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3presented to Michael Horstman as a symbol of our esteem and
