HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The University Retirement System of Illinois
3became effective on September 1, 1941 to provide retirement
4annuities and other benefits for employees of the University of
5Illinois and other State colleges and universities; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The University Retirement System of Illinois
7became known as the State Universities Retirement System on
8March 18, 1963; and
 
9    WHEREAS, The State Universities Retirement System is
10governed by a Board of Trustees, comprised of four elected
11contributing members, two elected annuitant members, and five
12appointed members, including the Chair of the Board of Higher
13Education; and
 
14    WHEREAS, The State Universities Retirement System offers
15three retirement plan options for its members, including the
16Traditional Defined-Benefit Plan, Portable Defined-Benefit
17Plan, and the Self-Managed Plan; and
 
18    WHEREAS, The State Universities Retirement System manages
19$19.2 billion worth of assets and has achieved a 30-year rate
20of return of 9.2% as of State Fiscal Year 2015; and

1    WHEREAS, The State Universities Retirement System annually
2processes more than $2.2 billion in member benefits as of State
3Fiscal Year 2015; and
 
4    WHEREAS, The State Universities Retirement System
5currently serves more than 60 employers and administers pension
6benefits for more than 228,000 members as of State Fiscal Year
72015; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The State Universities Retirement System
9continues to serve its mission of securing and delivering the
10retirement benefits promised to its members; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
12NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
13congratulate the State Universities Retirement System on its
1475th anniversary and thank them for their professionalism and
15dedication to public service; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the Board of Trustees of the State Universities
18Retirement System.
