HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Anne
4Weston McGowan, who passed away on March 7, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Anne McGowan was born on August 12, 1937 in
6Brooklyn, New York; she was the only child of Harold and
7Frances Weston; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Anne McGowan attended Middlebury College as a
9young woman in 1955; she subsequently graduated from Illinois
10Wesleyan University with a Bachelor's Degree in English
11Literature in 1976; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Anne McGowan married James Denise McGowan on July
133, 1958 at Fort Devens, Massachusetts; Jim McGowan, a former
14professor at Illinois Wesleyan University, predeceased her by
15one year to the day; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Anne McGowan was survived by 3 children and 3
17grandsons; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Anne McGowan was an active and dedicated volunteer
19in the non-profit organization formerly known as Operation
20Recycle since its inception, beginning her service during a

1one-day recycling drive in 1971; Operation Recycle created and
2then provided recycling services to the Bloomington and Normal
3community for over 2 decades until the assumption of this role
4by municipal agencies; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Anne McGowan worked to educate local school
6children and adults about the importance of recycling; she led
7these efforts as the first Director of the Ecology Action
8Center, the non-profit environmental agency that evolved from
9Operation Recycle; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Anne McGowan demonstrated passion, dedication,
11and leadership in McLean County by inspiring generations of
12McLean County residents to act as proper stewards of our
13environment and our natural resources; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
15NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
16mourn the passing of Anne Weston McGowan, recognize her
17remarkable career and significant efforts to improve her local
18environment, and express our eternal appreciation for her
19dedication in service to the McLean County community; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Anne McGowan as an expression of our
