HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The Indiana General Assembly recently signed
3Senate Bill 101, known as the "Religious Freedom Restoration
4Act", into law; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The bill enshrines legal discrimination against
6others, such as homosexuals, based on the pretext of religious
7freedom; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Passing a bill of this type could in fact
9perpetuate further discrimination of other groups on the
10pretext of religious freedom; and
 
11    WHEREAS, The bill poses a threat to Illinoisans who visit
12Indiana, who could be discriminated against by the newly
13adopted law; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
15NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
16Indiana's "Religious Freedom Restoration Act" is publicly
17condemned by this body as an unnecessary and discriminatory
18measure that harms United States society; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That we discourage travel to Indiana for the
20purposes of guaranteeing the right to be attended to in any

1business despite the religious beliefs of a business owner; and
2be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That we hope that, upon passage of this
4resolution, the Indiana government will overturn the
5"Religious Freedom Restoration Act" for all the reasons
6highlighted; and be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution will be
8sent to Governor Bruce Rauner, Speaker of the Illinois House of
9Representatives Michael Madigan, President of the Illinois
10Senate John Cullerton, and their respective counterparts in
11Indiana.
