1    AN ACT concerning safety.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Solid Waste Management Act is
5amended by changing Section 6a as follows:
 
6    (415 ILCS 20/6a)  (from Ch. 111 1/2, par. 7056a)
7    Sec. 6a. The Department of Commerce and Economic
8Opportunity shall:
9    (1) Work with nationally based consumer groups and trade
10associations to support the development of develop nationally
11recognized logos which may be used to indicate whether a
12container and any other consumer products which are claimed to
13be recyclable by a product manufacturer are is recyclable,
14compostable, or biodegradable made of recycled materials, or
15both.
16    (2) Work with nationally based consumer groups and trade
17associations to develop nationally recognized criteria for
18determining under what conditions the logos may be used.
19    (3) Develop and conduct a public education and awareness
20campaign to encourage the public to look for and buy products
21in containers which are recyclable or made of recycled
22materials.
23    (4) Develop and prepare educational materials describing

1the benefits and methods of recycling for distribution to
2elementary schools in Illinois.
