SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Thomas G. "Jerry" Hays of Catlin, who
4passed away on December 10, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Thomas Hays was born to Thomas and Leotta (nee
6Smith) Hays; he graduated from Oakwood High School and attended
7Danville Area Community College; he married Hilda Gouty on
8April 11, 1962 in Danville; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Thomas Hays worked as maintenance supervisor for
10the Illinois Power Company (now Ameren) at the Vermilion Power
11Station in Oakwood for more than 40 years; under his
12supervision, the plant was awarded numerous company-wide
13safety awards; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Thomas Hays was a past president of the Catlin
15Summer Youth League, and he was a member of the Illinois
16National Guard and the Davis Busby Catlin American Legion Post
17776; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Thomas Hays was an accomplished master craftsman
19who could tackle any project or task; he was jokingly known by
20his family as a mathematical genius; and

1    WHEREAS, Thomas Hays is survived by his wife, Hilda; his
2son, State Representative Chad (Ruth) Hays; his 2 daughters,
3Carla (Dean) Modglin and Karen (Mike) Ostaffe; his 8
4grandchildren, Leighton and Caleb Peavler, Damon Hays, Grace
5and Evan Modglin, and Kate, Michael, and Xander Ostaffe; his 2
6great-grandsons, Greyson and Wesley Peavler; his sister,
7Marilyn (Jerry) Atkins; his niece, Wendy (Doug) Taylor; and his
82 nephews, Eric (Carlyn) Atkins and Brian (Laurie) Atkins;
9therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Thomas G. "Jerry" Hays, and extend our sincere condolences to
13his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Thomas Hays as an expression of our
17deepest sympathy.
