SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Helen Catherine (nee Matre) Hopkinson of
4River Forest, who passed away on June 9, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Helen Hopkinson was born on December 1, 1926 in
6Oak Park to Richard and Gertrude Matre; she graduated from
7Trinity High School in River Forest in 1944; she attended
8Syracuse University and graduated from Rosary College (now
9Dominican University) in River Forest; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Helen Hopkinson worked as a bookkeeper at her
11husband's store, Gorman Church Goods, in Oak Park; later she
12worked as an administrative assistant in the Obstetrics
13Department at Loyola University Medical Center for 12 years;
14upon her retirement in 1993, she moved to Valparaiso, Florida;
15she returned to River Forest in 2008; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Helen Hopkinson was active in Ascension Catholic
17Church in Oak Park and served as a Girl Scout and Cub Scout
18leader; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Helen Hopkinson was preceded in death by her
20husband, John; her siblings, Richard and sister-in-law Marilu
21(Flanagan) Matre, John "Punch", and Patricia (Hopkinson)

1Milnamow; and her brother-in-law, Jack Kevil; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Helen Hopkinson is survived by her children, Bill
3(Debby), Sue, Bob (Paula), B.C. (Tim) Juettner, Joan (Mark)
4Stakulis, Jim (Deborah), Dave (Sally), and John; her
5grandchildren, Kari (Ryan) Gemmell, Mike Hopkinson, Lauren and
6Allison Reinke, Nicole (Brian) Acker, Bobby and Colin
7Hopkinson, John and Annelise Juettner, Nolan, Brian, Ciara, and
8Maura Hopkinson, and Cliff and Matthew Hopkinson; her
9sister-in-law, Jeanne (Hopkinson) Kevil; her many nieces and
10nephews; and her 4 great-grandchildren, Madeline, Mackenzie
11and Caitlin Acker, and Owen Gemmell; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Helen Catherine Hopkinson, and extend our sincere condolences
15to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be
16it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Helen Hopkinson as an expression of
19our deepest sympathy.
