SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3recognize the band The Ides of March as it celebrates its 50th
4anniversary of performing together; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The group that would become The Ides of March
6began in Berwyn on October 16, 1964 as "The Shon-Dels"; its
7first record, "Like It Or Lump It", was released on its own
8"Epitome" record label in 1965; and
 
9    WHEREAS, In 1966, after changing its name to The Ides of
10March - a name suggested by bassist Bob Bergland after reading
11Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar" in high school - the band
12released "You Wouldn't Listen", its first single on Parrot
13Records; and
 
14    WHEREAS, In 1970, the Ides of March released the track
15"Vehicle", which at the time became the fastest selling single
16in Warner Brothers Records' history; the song reached #2 on the
17Hot 100 and #6 on the corresponding Cash Box listings; it sold
18over 1,000,000 copies and was awarded a gold record in November
19of 1972; the following album, "Vehicle", reached #55
20nationally; and
 
21    WHEREAS, From 1973 to 1990, The Ides of March went on an

1extended hiatus, but the band returned with its original
2line-up in 1990 and continues to make new music and tour the
3United States to this day; and
 
4    WHEREAS, The members of The Ides of March are Larry Millas,
5Jim Peterik, Bob Bergland, Mike Borch, Dave Stahlberg, Scott
6May, Tim Bales, and Steve Eisen; past-members are John Larson,
7Ray Herr, Conrad Prybe, Dave Arellano, Dave Southern, and Chuck
8Soumar; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the band,
11The Ides of March, as it celebrates its 50th anniversary of
12performing together and wish them many more successful years;
13and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That we proclaim October 16, 2014 as "The Ides of
15March Day" in the State of Illinois; and be it further    
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to The Ides of March as a symbol of our esteem and
18respect.
