SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John F. "Jack" Smith of McHenry, who
4passed away on July 30, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jack Smith was born in McHenry on December 28,
61927 to Arthur and Laura (nee Young) Smith; he served in the
7United States Army from 1946 to 1948; he married Betty A.
8Miller at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnsburg on
9November 26, 1953; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Jack Smith trained as a butcher and spent several
11years in the profession before entering the carpentry field; he
12spent most of his career as a carpenter, working for various
13carpentry firms in the McHenry area; he retired from Joseph
14Frett & Son Construction in 1993; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Jack Smith was a Master Rose Gardener; he enjoyed
16golfing, and was a long-time member of the McHenry Country
17Club; he also enjoyed fishing and bowling; he loved to show
18support for his grandchildren by attending their sporting
19events and school activities; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Jack Smith was preceded in death by his parents;
21his 5 brothers, Arthur, Earl, Ralph, Lester, and Bob; and a

1sister, Marian; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Jack Smith is survived by his wife of 60 years,
3Betty; 4 children, Debbie (Wade) Heisler, Sandi (Mark)
4Patterson, Jeff (Dee-Dee) Smith, and Brian (Chris) Smith; 8
5grandchildren, Kristin (Benson) Sanford, Kimberly (Mark)
6Kunkel, Kelly, Jorden, Jeremy, Jason, Ryan, and Logan; and a
7sister, Dori Tonyan; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of
10John F. "Jack" Smith, and extend our sincere condolences to his
11family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Jack Smith as an expression of our
15deepest sympathy.
