SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of William T. Cox of Geneva, who passed away
4on May 17, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, William Cox was born on January 6, 1922 in Rock
6Island; his parents were Tracy W. and Hazel (nee Scott) Cox; he
7married Ethel Williams on January 24, 1942 in Davenport, Iowa;
8and
 
9    WHEREAS, In 1937, William Cox joined the United States
10Marine Corps, serving until 1939 when he was honorably
11discharged; he also served in the United States Navy SeaBees
12from 1943 through 1945 at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii; and
 
13    WHEREAS, William Cox and his family moved to Geneva in 1956
14when he accepted a job with Burgess-Norton; during his long
15career with Burgess-Norton, he worked as a metallurgist and
16developed the hardening agent DH-5; he worked at Burgess-Norton
17from 1955 until his retirement in 1989; and
 
18    WHEREAS, William Cox was a life member of Masonic Trinity
19Lodge #208 in Davenport, the American Legion Post #75 in
20Geneva, and the American Society of Metals; he also contributed
21many hours to the Kane County Sheriff's Patrol; and

1    WHEREAS, William Cox was preceded in death by his wife,
2Ethel; his parents; and a sister; and
 
3    WHEREAS, William Cox is survived by his children, David
4(Lois) Cox and Billie Cox; 5 grandchildren, Matthew (Jennifer)
5Cox, Patrick (Amber) Cox, Terra Cox, Renee Lightburn, and
6Tracey Lightburn; 3 great-grandchildren, Lindsay, Evan, and
7Joslynn; a brother, Carl (Donna); and a brother-in-law, Sam
8(Karen) Williams; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
11family and friends, mourn the passing of William T. Cox; and be
12it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of William Cox as an expression of our
15sympathy.
