SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Gill McWilliams Garman of Danville, who
4passed away on May 31, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gill Garman was born on May 18, 1943 in Urbana to
6Tom and Naomi (nee Lierman) Garman; he graduated from Urbana
7High School in 1961 and earned his Bachelor of Arts in
8Economics from the University of Illinois in 1965; he married
9Rita Bell on August 26, 1967 in Oswego and graduated from the
10University of Iowa College of Law in 1968; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Gill Garman began his career at Sebat, Swanson, &
12Banks; most recently, he was a partner in the firm of Kesler,
13Nelson, Garman, Brougher, & Townsley; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Gill Garman was active in the Rotary Club of
15Danville No. 188, where he was a past-president and a Paul
16Harris Fellow; he served on numerous boards and committees,
17including the Danville Public Library, the Presence United
18Samaritans Foundation, and he was a director of the First
19Savings Bank of Danville; he was an active member of St. James
20United Methodist Church, the Danville Country Club, and the
21Alpha Tau Omega fraternity; he was a 2-time organ transplant
22recipient and was passionate about giving the gift of life; and

1    WHEREAS, Gill Garman was preceded in death by his parents;
2and
 
3    WHEREAS, Gill Garman had 2 children, Sara Ellen (John)
4Doyle and Andrew Gill (Meredith) Garman, and 3 grandchildren,
5Kathleen (Kate) and Griffin Doyle and Samantha Garman;
6therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Gill McWilliams Garman, and extend our sincere condolences to
10his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
11further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Gill Garman as an expression of our
14deepest sympathy.
