SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3celebrate and honor the life of Eleanor "Eli" Johnson Grafton
4of Moline, who passed away on May 9, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Eleanor Johnson Grafton was born on December 23,
61925 in Moscow, Iowa; her parents were Leonard and Elsie Morgan
7Lange; she married Gordon Johnson on June 9, 1946; he preceded
8her in death on December 17, 1982; she then married Jim Grafton
9in January of 1985; he preceded her in death on April 20, 2002;
10and
 
11    WHEREAS, Eleanor Johnson Grafton graduated from Moline
12High School and attended Augustana College in Rock Island; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Eleanor Johnson Grafton was a member of All Saints
14Episcopal Church in Moline and King's Daughters Carolyn Getz
15Circle; she was also a member of the Moline Library Board for
1620 years and served as the board's president; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Eleanor Johnson Grafton was preceded in death by
18her parents; her first husband; her second husband; 2 sisters;
19and Esther and Harold Olson, Hilda Olson, Michael Harper Manis,
20Josh Grafton, and Alex Hallene; and

1    WHEREAS, Eleanor Johnson Grafton is survived by a son,
2Gordon Johnson; 3 daughters, Laurie Johnson Manis, Kathryn
3(Steve Kuemmerle) Johnson, and Betsey (Rick Sherman) Johnson; 6
4grandchildren, Charles (Melissa) Manis, Geoffrey (Jennifer)
5Manis, Pamela Kuemmerle, Harris Kuemmerle, William Sherman,
6and Eliza Sherman; a great-grandchild, Harper Michael Manis; 5
7stepchildren, Jim (Mary) Grafton, Suzi Apple, Mindy (Steve)
8Kruse, Molly Grafton, and Al Hallene; 6 step-grandchildren,
9Abby and Ben Grafton, Ashley and Aubrie Apple, and Bryan and
10Jimmy Hallene; and her special caregivers, including Heather
11Andrew and Becky Burwell; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we celebrate and honor
14the life of Eleanor "Eli" Johnson Grafton and mourn her
15passing; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Eleanor Johnson Grafton as an
18expression of our sympathy.
