SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Rabbi Daniel Moscowitz of Chicago, passed
4away on March 4, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Rabbi Moscowitz was born on the North Side to
6Frank (Ephraim) and Cynthia (Tzivia) Moscowitz; he attended
7Bais Yaakov, a local Jewish day school and he followed his
8father's footsteps, studying at yeshivahs in Montreal, Canada
9and Brooklyn; he was among the young students selected to serve
10as senior students at the Chabad yeshivah in Brunoy, France; he
11married Esther Rochel Aronow and returned to Chicago; he joined
12the Congregation Anshei Lubavitch and founded the Tannenbaum
13Chabad House, serving Jewish students at Northwestern
14University; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Rabbi Moscowitz was the regional director of
16Lubavitch-Chabad of Illinois, who spearheaded the growth of
17Chabad-Lubavitch centers to nearly 40 locations in 21 Illinois
18cities, with schools and services for seniors and children with
19special needs; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Rabbi Moscowitz helped open a new synagogue on
21Chicago's far North Side in the summer of 1995, Bais Menachem
22Nusach Ari, and in 2000, he moved his family to Northbrook to

1open a new Chabad center; most recently he oversaw the opening
2of a new Chabad center in Carbondale; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Rabbi Moscowitz was active in Jewish communal
4leadership on a national and global level; he was Chairman of
5the executive committee of the Chicago Rabbinical Council, a
6member of the executive committee of Merkos L'Inyonei Chinuch -
7the educational arm of Chabad-Lubavitch, and was a visible
8leader at the International Conference of Chabad Emissaries; he
9was a regular at Hanukkah menorah-lighting ceremonies at Daley
10Plaza; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Rabbi Moscowitz is survived by his wife, Esther;
12his children, Shterna Sara Newman, Rabbi Meir Shimon Moscowitz,
13Rabbi Yosef Shmuel Moscowitz, Rabbi Yehoshua Zelik Moscowitz,
14Rivkah Sternberg, Chana Teldon, Rabbi Leibel Moscowitz, and
15Chaya Mushka Hecht; his parents; and his brothers, Rabbi Moshe
16Moscowitz, Eli Moscowitz, and Rabbi Mendel Moscowitz;
17therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20Rabbi Daniel Moscowitz, and extend our sincere condolences to
21his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
