SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Robert L. Myers of Moline, who passed
4away on January 7, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Robert Myers was born on March 21, 1986 in
6Independence, Missouri; his parents were Julie Burke Myers and
7Gary L. Myers; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Robert Myers attended Knoxville schools,
9graduating from Knoxville High School in 2004; he later earned
10his associate's degree from Carl Sandburg College and his
11Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Western
12Illinois University; he then attended the University of Hawaii
13and Rutgers University before obtaining his Master of Arts in
14Criminal Justice from St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa
15in 2013; while in high school, he was invited to attend the
16Illinois Teenage Institute with the Peers with Advanced
17Leadership Skills Program at Millikin University; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Robert Myers served his country as a member of the
19United States Navy; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Robert Myers worked at the Knox County Teen Court
21for 3 years, having served as juror, defense attorney,

1prosecuting attorney, and bailiff; he worked as a Digital Media
2Consultant for the Quad City Times in Davenport, Iowa, worked
3for security at I Wireless in Moline, and assisted Illinois
4State Senator Michael Jacobs and Congressman Bobby Schilling on
5their political campaigns; while in college, he established a
6book company as owner and operator under the title of Grammy's
7Books; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Robert Myers attended the First Presbyterian
9Church in Galesburg, where he served as a Deacon and
10participated with the Presbyterian Youth Club and other
11committees; he was also an Illinois High School Association
12basketball official and was affiliated with the Masons
13Davenport Lodge #37 in Davenport, Iowa; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Robert Myers enjoyed the outdoors, running
15marathons, golfing, and fishing; he was also an avid fan of the
16Chicago Cubs, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and the Mallards and Notre
17Dame sports teams, among many others; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Robert Myers was preceded in death by his father,
19Gary L. Myers; his maternal grandfather, Robert L. Burke; his
20paternal grandfather, Forrest "Gene" Myers; and his uncle,
21Robert Myers; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Robert Myers is survived by his daughter, Ashlyn

1Myers; his mother, Julie Burke Myers; his sisters, Jessica
2Myers and Tiffany Myers; his maternal grandmother, Margaret
3Burke; his paternal grandmother, Alice Myers; his aunts, Linda
4(Roger) Lamm, Karen Allen, Debbie (Randy) Shreeves, and Becky
5(Tom) Nyman; his uncle, Terry Myers; and his many cousins and
6close friends; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
9family and friends, mourn the passing of Robert L. Myers; and
10be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Robert Myers as an expression of our
13sympathy.
