SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Th members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of William John Shadid of Peoria, who passed
4away on January 31, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, William Shadid was born on October 5, 1926 in
6Clinton, Iowa to Phillip A. and Edna (nee Massad) Shadid; he
7graduated from Manual Training High School in 1944 and served
8in the United States Army at Fort Sheridan from 1945 to 1946;
9he married Nancy A. DeBord on July 27, 1958 at All Saints Greek
10Orthodox Church in Peoria; and
 
11    WHEREAS, William Shadid was in business with his brothers
12at the White Front Tavern in South Rome from 1950-1952, the
13Corner Tap from 1954 to 1957, and the Main St. Tap/Club Caravan
14and Club Sahara from 1958 to 1970; he began working for
15Caterpillar in the early 70s and retired from the Powder
16Metallurgy Division in 1991 after 27 years; and
 
17    WHEREAS, William Shadid was a member and active parishioner
18at All Saints Greek Orthodox Church; he was a life member of
19the American Legion Peoria Post 2 since 1946 and has been Poppy
20Chairman the past 15 years; he served as a Webelos leader, an
21Assistant Scoutmaster and Scoutmaster of Troop 44 at Glen Oak
22Christian Church, and as committee member at Troop 140 at

1Forrest Hills Methodist Church; he received the District Award
2of Merit and Silver Beaver from W.D. Boyce Council Boy Scouts
3of America; he volunteered at OSF St. Francis Hospital from
41992 to 1999 and helped as a can shaker for the St. Jude
5Tri-County Run; and
 
6    WHEREAS, William Shadid was preceded in death by Sitto
7Shadid; his parents; his sister, Louise; his brother, Mitchell
8Shadid; his sister-in-law, Delores Shadid; his brother-in-law,
9Philip Abraham; and his nephew, George Shadid; and
 
10    WHEREAS, William Shadid is survived by his wife, Nancy; his
11children, the Very Reverend Father Don (Janet) Shadid, Bill
12Shadid, Peggy Shadid, and Timothy M. (Juana) Shadid; his
13grandchildren, Christopher, Stephen, Anthony, and Noelle; his
14siblings, Gladys Abraham, George (Lorraine) Shadid, Pauline
15(John) Unes, Joan (Richard) Pettit, Fred (Jean) Shadid, and
16Jeanette (John) Harris; and many nieces and nephews; therefore,
17be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20William John Shadid, and extend our sincere condolences to his
21family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
