SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of J. Howard Yates, Jr. of Peoria, who
4passed away on January 7, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, J. Howard Yates, Jr. was born on September 22,
61943 in Evanston to Jess Howard, Sr. and Charlotte R. (nee
7Vavrik) Yates; he married Sharon Oberholtzer on November 30,
81963; he later married Diana Lynn Raymond on August 9, 1968 in
9Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; he served his country in the
10United States Army during the Vietnam War; and
 
11    WHEREAS, J. Howard Yates, Jr. worked as a sales
12representative for several different companies including
13Rudkin-Wiley in the Air Shield Division, Merrill Lynch, and
14Traders Realty; he also was the Director of Guest Services for
15the Peoria Chiefs baseball club; he retired in August of 2010;
16and
 
17    WHEREAS, J. Howard Yates, Jr. a was a member and served as
18President of the South-West Kiwanis Club, board member of the
19Boys and Girls Club of America, program chairman of the Board
20of Realtors, Northwest United Methodist Church member, and
21administrative board member of Northwest UMC; and

1    WHEREAS, J. Howard Yates, Jr. was an avid golfer with a
2hole-in-one and an avid bowler with a 300 top score; he played
3tenor saxophone in numerous dance and rock 'n' roll bands, as
4well as the Bradley Friends & Family Band; he enjoyed singing
5in the church choir and coached several of his son Kevin's
6baseball teams; he was an ardent fan of the Peoria Chiefs and
7the Chicago Bears and Cubs; and
 
8    WHEREAS, J. Howard Yates, Jr. was preceded in death by his
9parents; his wife, Diana; and his son, Brian Keith; and
 
10    WHEREAS, J. Howard Yates, Jr. is survived by his sons, Tom
11(Kim) Yates, Daniel Yates, and Kevin (Jennifer) Yates; his 4
12grandchildren; his great-grandchild; his brother, Dr. Robert
13(Karin) Yates; his sister, Carol (Carl) Allen; his
14mother-in-law, Gertrude Tow; and several cousins, nieces, and
15nephews; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18J. Howard Yates, Jr., and extend our sincere condolences to his
19family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of J. Howard Yates, Jr. as an
