SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Helen J. Young of Peoria, who passed away
4on January 3, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Helen Young was born on September 27, 1956 in
6Peoria to Harold and Betty (nee Dutton) Young; she earned her
7bachelor's degree in Accounting from Bradley University in
8Peoria in 1978; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Helen Young began her career at the public
10accounting firm of Ginoli and Company in Peoria; from 1984 to
112007, she worked at RLI Insurance Company, organizing the first
12tax department within the company; she was a dedicated Director
13on the CEFCU Board for 15 years and held positions on all
14standing committees, including Board Chairman; she continued
15her volunteer service as an honored member of the Illinois
16Governor's Credit Union Board of Advisors; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Helen Young was a member of the American Institute
18of Certified Public Accountants, the Illinois Certified Public
19Accountants Society, the Institute of Internal Auditors, and
20the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners; she received the
211992 Prescott E. Bloom Memorial Distinguished Service Award and
22was listed in the Outstanding Young Women of America; and

1    WHEREAS, Helen Young was involved in charitable and
2not-for-profit activities for many years; she is a former board
3member of the Peoria Area Community Foundation, the American
4Red Cross, Goodwill Industries, Family House, Tri-County
5WomenStrength, the Peoria Area Tri-Centennial Celebration,
6KARNA, the Bradley University Associate Board of Trustees, and
7was very active with Friends of Friedrichshafen; she was past
8President of the Junior League of Peoria, the Bradley
9University National Alumni Association, and the Central
10Illinois Bradley Alumni Chapter; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Helen Young was actively involved with Bradley
12University as part of the alumni association, the Council of
13Advisors, the Chief's Club, the Centennial Steering Committee,
14and the Centennial Campaign; she received the 2003 Billy Stone
15Award for her service to Bradley University athletics and
16established the Helen J. Young Scholarship to assist student
17athletes majoring in Business; her community involvement
18branched out to include fund drives for Easter Seals, St. Jude,
19WCBU, WTVP, and the Lakeview Museum; she was a member of the
20First United Methodist Church in Peoria; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Helen Young was preceded in death by her parents;
22and

1    WHEREAS, Helen Young is survived by cousins, many friends,
2and her First United Methodist Church family; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
5Helen J. Young, and extend our sincere condolences to her
6family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
7further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the family of Helen Young as an expression of our
10deepest sympathy.
