SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of LeRoy "Lee" W. Sackman of Waukegan, who
4passed away on July 10, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, LeRoy Sackman was born in 1923 in Waukegan and
6lived there most of his life; he graduated from Waukegan
7Township High School as the Most Valuable Senior Athlete and
8was invited to try out for the Chicago Cubs as a knuckleball
9pitcher; he attended the University of Illinois in
10Urbana-Champaign and served in the United States Army; he
11married Carol Jean Butler on February 5, 1955; and
 
12    WHEREAS, LeRoy Sackman returned to Waukegan to run his
13family's business, Sackman Lumber and Coal Company, upon the
14passing of his father, Leo; in 1964, he changed careers and
15became a successful stock broker for over 40 years; and
 
16    WHEREAS, LeRoy Sackman had a passion for sports and enjoyed
17skiing on family vacations; he was a lifetime member and former
18president of the Glen Flora Country Club and played golf 3 to 5
19times a week; he coached his son's Peanut League, Little
20League, and Pony League and always had the TV turned to the
21Cubs, Sox, Bears, Bulls, or Blackhawks; he never turned down an
22opportunity to toss the baseball around, shoot hoops, or play a

1couple of holes of golf before dark; and
 
2    WHEREAS, LeRoy Sackman was married to Carol for nearly 58
3years before her passing; and
 
4    WHEREAS, LeRoy Sackman had 3 children, Gary (Joyce), Lori,
5and Jean (Rob) and 7 grandchildren, Nick, Dan, Jake, Casey,
6Eric, Brian, and Tom; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9LeRoy W. Sackman, and extend our sincere condolences to his
10family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
11further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of LeRoy Sackman as an expression of
14our deepest sympathy.
