SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Walter C. Milton of Staunton, formerly of
4Granite City, who passed away on January 18, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Walter Milton was born on June 23, 1933, in
6Stewart County, Tennessee, to Herbert and Maggie (Clinard)
7Milton; he received his early education in Stewart County and
8was in the first graduating class of Southern Illinois
9University-Edwardsville; he married Peggy Hawk; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Walter Milton retired as vice-president and
11general manager of the Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company in Alton;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, Walter Milton served as the chairman of the
14Granite City Housing Authority and was a member of the board of
15directors for 24 years; he served as legislative aide to
16Senator Sam Vadalabene of the 56th district for 12 years; he
17was active on the Great River Road's Committee's Recreation
18local I.L.D.O.T. Planning Commission, a former member of the
19board of directors and retired chairman of the board of
20Guardian Savings Bank, a former member of the Belleville Area
21College G.C. Campus, a member of the advisory board of the
22Granite City School District, and the Granite City Park

1District Board; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Walter Milton served as a Democratic Precinct
3Committeeman, G.C. 22, Granite City Board of Alderman Ward 6,
4Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce member for 30 years and chairman
5of its Law Enforcement Committee; he was a former member and
6former president of the Rotary Club of Granite City, Paul
7Harris Fellow, member of the Illinois Bottlers Association, and
8the Cahokia Mounds Council; he co-sponsored the formation of
9the D.A.R.E. program for the Granite City School District No.9;
10in 1975 and 1998, he received the citizen of the year award
11from the Granite City Park District; he has also received the
12Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award and the
13Belleville Area College 15 Great Men Award; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Walter Milton was preceded in death by his
15parents; his wife, Peggy; his daughter, Patricia A. Milton; his
16grandson, Walter Milton III; his great-grandson, Aaron
17Hergert; his brothers, James, Herbert Jr., and Charles K.
18Milton; and his sisters, Sallie Kirksey, Marcia Pigg, and
19Lucille Ferguson; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Walter Milton is survived by his sons, Walter C.
21Milton Jr. and Brett (Julie) Milton; his daughters, Mary
22(Craig) Rydgig and Anita (Dwayne) Winchell; his grandchildren,
23Thomasina Hergert, Kyle and Cody Milton, Michelle, Clayton, and

1Christopher Rydgig, Jason and Adam Winchell, Crystal Clark,
2Brittany, Jacob, and Caden Milton; his great-grandchildren,
3Conner, Devin, and Logan Hergert, Aubrie and Drew Clark, and
4Layla and Carter Rydgig; his brothers and sisters-in-laws; and
5many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
8Walter Milton, and we extend our sincere condolences to his
9family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
10further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Walter Milton as an expression of
13our deepest sympathy.
