2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate the staff and
4administration of the Technology Center of DuPage on the
5occasion of the Center's 40th anniversary; and

6    WHEREAS, The Technology Center of DuPage seeks to provide
7an educational environment that supports and encourages
8individual learning styles, develops occupational skills,
9fosters professionalism, promotes academic growth, and assists
10students in discovering their potential; the Technology Center
11of DuPage also helps students to prepare for a successful
12transition to post-secondary education and their careers; and

13    WHEREAS, The Technology Center of DuPage opened in its
14current Addison facility in late December during the 1974-1975
15school year, under the acronym DAVEA (DuPage Area Vocational
16Education Authority); the DuPage Area Vocational Education
17Authority was developed to provide DuPage high school students
18with advanced vocational education programs, preparing them

1vocational education delivery system in 1983, a new regional
2governing body, the DuPage Area Occupational Education System,
3was formed and the DAVEA acronym became the name "Davea Career
4Center"; the Davea Career Center's focus was still on
5vocational education, but with the philosophy that a student
6was being prepared for an evolving career path, rather than a
7job; and

8    WHEREAS, Due to the explosion of technology in the
9workplace, an increasingly competitive global marketplace, and
10a greater demand for highly-skilled and capable employees, more
11Davea Career Center students were continuing their education
12after high school through college courses, technical school
13programs, or advanced industry-based training; to reflect
14these changes, the Davea Career Center's name was changed to
15the "Technology Center of DuPage" in 1998; and

16    WHEREAS, After 40 years of service, the staff and
17administration of the Technology Center of DuPage continue to
18prepare students for the next step after graduation, usually a
19combination of post-secondary education and work, and to expect
20life-long learning as the key to a solid career path; the
21Center's programs also offer students the opportunity to earn
22transferable college credit concurrently with high school
23elective credit; and
