HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Recognizing that work remains to be done to aid
3the high number of unemployed and underemployed individuals,
4the State of Illinois and the federal government have announced
5major initiatives to promote workforce development activities;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, These activities are primarily aimed at helping
8individuals acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to
9pursue a career in today's competitive job market; and
 
10    WHEREAS, As part of these efforts, the State will be
11promoting a new initiative to increase the work readiness of
12individuals by obtaining a college degree or career
13certificate; and
 
14    WHEREAS, At the federal level, major efforts are being made
15to review the nation's workforce and training system to make it
16more job-driven, integrated, and effective; and
 
17    WHEREAS, A key aspect in the State and federal efforts is
18the active involvement of the private business sector; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Workforce Investment Boards provide businesses
20with an important forum to inform training providers, including

1the public education system, community colleges, State
2University systems, and proprietary schools, of the needs of
3the local business community; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Workforce Investment Boards were established by
5federal law to serve as a vital provider of information,
6programs, and services to individuals seeking employment,
7employers, and training providers; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Under the authority provided to Workforce
9Investment Boards, opportunities and funds are available for
10individuals to enroll in training programs and services at Job
11Centers throughout the State that give priority to the local
12business community's current and future needs; and
 
13    WHEREAS, It is fitting that the Illinois House of
14Representatives continues to support the role that Workforce
15Investment Boards play in strengthening their local
16communities and, by extension, the State of Illinois and the
17nation; and
 
18    WHEREAS, The week of August 25 through August 31, 2014 will
19be an opportunity for Workforce Investment Boards to highlight
20and promote the many ways in which they are undertaking this
21important work; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3we recognize the week of August 25 through August 31, 2014 as
4"Workforce Development Week" in the State of Illinois and
5encourage individuals, businesses, and governmental
6organizations to visit and promote the programs and services
7offered through local Workforce Investment Boards.
