HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to honor the life of former Westmont Mayor
4William H. Rahn, who passed away at the age of 71, on November
511, 2013, ending a remarkable life of political service; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Mayor Rahn was born and raised in Westmont,
7leaving only to attend college at Northern Illinois University,
8where he earned a bachelor's degree in marketing and a master's
9degree in special education and counseling; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Mayor Rahn's life of public service began when he
11served as the Chairperson of the Westmont Planning and Zoning
12Commission, as well as Chairperson of the Cable Commission; he
13first ran for public office in 1983, when he was elected to the
14position of Village Trustee; he was also a founding member of
15the Westmont Historical Society as well as a lifetime member of
16the Westmont Lions Club and the Westmont Chamber of Commerce;
17and
 
18    WHEREAS, Mayor Rahn began serving as Mayor of Westmont in
191999, a position he held until his retirement in 2013, and is
20Westmont's longest serving mayor for consecutive years; he
21became known to many in the village as simply "Mayor Bill"; and

1    WHEREAS, Mayor Rahn is recognized for his lifelong
2dedication to the Village of Westmont and it citizens, as well
3as a committed community leader and devoted family man; and
 
4    WHEREAS, In honor of Mayor Rahn's service to the Village of
5Westmont, a scholarship fund will be developed in his memory;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, Mayor Rahn is survived by Jill, his loving wife of
840 years, his 3 children, Peter, Heidi, and Danika, and several
9grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
12we honor the life of Bill H. Rahn, former Mayor of the Village
13of Westmont, and offer our sincere condolences to his family
14and friends; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Mayor Rahn as a symbol of our
17sincere sympathy and respect.
