HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, November 22, 2013 will mark the 50th anniversary
3of the assassination of John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of
4the United States of America; and
 
5    WHEREAS, President John F. Kennedy was fatally shot by a
6sniper at 12:30pm standard time on November 22, 1963 while
7traveling in a presidential limousine through Dealey Plaza in
8Dallas, Texas; and
 
9    WHEREAS, President John F. Kennedy was accompanied in the
10motorcade by his wife, First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, along
11with Texas Governor John Connally, who was wounded by gunfire;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested in connection with
14the assassination and was killed 2 days later by Jack Ruby; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Elected on January 20, 1961, John F. Kennedy was
16the only Catholic and the 2nd-youngest President to serve in
17the White House; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Despite his short-lived presidency, John F.
19Kennedy left behind a remarkable legacy of leadership; and

1    WHEREAS, President John F. Kennedy will be remembered for
2many accomplishments, including steering our nation away from
3the brink of war during the Cuban Missile Crisis, propelling
4America into the space race, founding the Peace Corps, and
5championing civil rights for all Americans; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
8we urge all churches to toll bells and all schools to designate
9a moment of silence at the exact hour and minute of November
1022, 2013 to mark the occasion of this solemn anniversary; and
11be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be made
13available to those who request it.
