HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of our
4friend and former colleague, Philip W. Collins Jr. of
5Springfield, who passed away on April 29, 2013; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Philip Collins Jr. was born on June 24, 1931, in
7Chicago; his parents were Philip and Rella Dwyer Collins; he
8married Donna Betts on November 27, 1981, in Chicago; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Philip Collins Jr. graduated from Mt. Carmel High
10School in 1949 and received his bachelor's degree in commerce
11from the University of Notre Dame in 1955; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Philip Collins Jr. served his country with pride
13as a member of the United States Navy; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Philip Collins Jr. served in the Illinois House of
15Representatives for 16 years until his departure in 1982; he
16was employed as the Director of Corporate Tax Collection for
17the Illinois Department of Revenue for 4 years and was the
18Director of Business Services for the Secretary of State for 8
19years; he also served on the Illinois Legislative Retirement
20Board for 8 terms; and

1    WHEREAS, Philip Collins Jr. was a member of Christ the King
2Catholic Church, the Sangamo Club, the Knights of Columbus,
3VFW, and the American Legion; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Philip Collins Jr. enjoyed watching Notre Dame,
5swimming, and golfing; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Philip Collins Jr. was preceded in death by his
7parents and his sister, Patricia O'Connor; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Philip Collins Jr. is survived by his wife, Donna
9Collins; his sons, Philip W. Collins III and Gregory (Kathy)
10Bridgwater; his daughters, Tierney (Kevin) Eson and Pamela
11(Victor) Naskrent; his grandchildren, Ashley (Ben) Timmons,
12Lindsay Whitten, Christopher Eson, Erin Collins, Kelsey
13Bridgwater, Michelle Eson, Zachary Michalik, and Mackenzie
14Collins; his great-grandchildren, Shaelynn Hoffman and Mason
15Adams; his sister, Irene (John) Hinkamp; and his many nieces
16and nephews; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
18NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
19we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of
20Philip W. Collins Jr.; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
