HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped
3in their lifetime; and
 
4    WHEREAS, With a world population of 7 billion, this adds up
5to more than one billion women and girls; and
 
6    WHEREAS, On February 14, 2013, ONE BILLION women across the
7world and those who love them are invited to join together to
8express their outrage at the injustices women suffer; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Lake County Rising was created as an event to join
10this effort to stop violence against women and girls, including
11rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation (FGM), and sex
12slavery; and
 
13    WHEREAS, On that date in Round Lake Beach, Lake County,
14Illinois, a Women's Resource Fair and program of speakers
15including Lake County leaders will share their stories as to
16why they rise; and
 
17    WHEREAS, The event will also include a celebration of women
18and their strengths through music and dance intended to build
19awareness and unity around supporting women of all ages; and

1    WHEREAS, Sponsors of Lake County Rising including Nicasa
2Behavioral Health Services, YWCA of Lake County, Motherland
3Rhythm Community, CLC Women's Center, Lake Forest College
4Students for Women Awareness Network (SWAN), and Lake County
5State's Attorney Michael G Nerheim, have long opposed violence
6and oppression against women; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9we recognize Lake County Rising's effort to end the abuse and
10oppression of women, both domestically and internationally,
11and add our voices to this cause; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to Lake County Rising as an expression of our esteem
14and respect.
