AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 226

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 226 by replacing
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:
 
4    "Section 5. The Election Code is amended by adding Section
53-6 as follows:
 
6    (10 ILCS 5/3-6 new)
7    Sec. 3-6. Voting age. Notwithstanding any other provision
8of law, a person who is 17 years old on the date of a primary
9election and who is otherwise qualified to vote is qualified to
10vote at that primary, including voting an absentee, grace
11period, or early voting ballot with respect to that primary, if
12that person will be 18 years old on the date of the immediately
13following general election or consolidated election.
14    References in this Code and elsewhere to the requirement
15that a person must be 18 years old to vote shall be interpreted
16in accordance with this Section.

1    For the purposes of this Act, an individual who is 17 years
2of age and who will be 18 years of age on the date of the
3general election or consolidated election shall be deemed
4competent to execute and attest to any voter registration
5forms.".
