SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Allen J. Oehlert of Chatham, who passed
4away on December 30, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Allen Oehlert was born on June 3, 1947, in Melrose
6Park; his parents were Walter J. and Dorothy Welch Oehlert; he
7married Sara Lamos on June 5, 1971; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Allen Oehlert earned his master's degree in
9political science from Northern Illinois University in 1972 and
10his juris doctor from the Southern Illinois University School
11of Law in 1976; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Allen Oehlert served the people of the State of
13Illinois as an attorney and law librarian at the Legislative
14Reference Bureau from 2004 until his passing; prior to his
15service at LRB, he was a partner in the private practice of
16Lowenstein, Hagen, Oehlert, and Smith, P.C. from 1977 to 2000
17and an administrative law judge with the Illinois Educational
18Labor Relations Board from 2000 to 2003; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Allen Oehlert was a member of the historic Grace
20Evangelical Lutheran Church and formerly served as Vice
21President of the Congregation; he was also a former legal

1counsel for the Central/Southern Illinois Synod of the
2Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and a member of the
3Illinois State Bar Association; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Allen Oehlert enjoyed cooking, gardening,
5canoeing, and hiking; he was also an avid photographer and a
6member of the Springfield Photography Club and the Studio on
76th Artist Co-op; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Allen Oehlert was preceded in death by his
9parents; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Allen Oehlert is survived by his loving wife,
11Sara; his wonderful children, Matthew (Amie) Oehlert,
12Elizabeth (Vladimir) Avila, Emily (Aaron) Dufrene, and
13Katherine (Phillip) Galloway; his grandchildren, Marcelina,
14Gus, and Amelia Oehlert, Lucas Avila, Finn and Sophia Dufrene,
15and Seraphina Galloway; his brother-in-law, Mark (Jerry Jones)
16Lamos; and his beloved dogs, Burt and Madison; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Allen Oehlert will be remembered fondly by his
18family and friends as a caring and generous man whose love of
19life and great dedication to his family was evident to all;
20therefore, be it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL

1ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
2his family and friends, the passing of Allen J. Oehlert; and be
3it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to the family of Allen Oehlert as an expression of
6our sympathy.
