SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are deeply
3saddened to learn of the death of Paul DesCoteaux of Geneva,
4who passed away on December 5, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Paul DesCoteaux was born on December 7, 1928, to
6William and Aldea (nee Soucy) DesCoteaux in Lowell,
7Massachusetts; he graduated from Lowell Technical Institute
8(University of Massachusetts) as a textile engineer; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Paul DesCoteaux worked for the Sun Oil Company,
10Standard Oil of Indiana (BP Amoco), and the Lebanon Seaboard
11Corporation; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Paul DesCoteaux was a lifelong learner; he
13volunteered for Fox Valley Literacy, was the founder of the
14Franklin Award and Scholarship for Science Education, and
15served on the board of directors of the Fermilab Friends for
16Science Education; he was co-founder of Geneva Learners, a
17weekly study group focused on world affairs; he helped organize
18the Fox Valley chapter of the Socrates Cafe, a global network
19of independent groups that meet to keep philosophical thinking
20alive; he was founder of the Geneva Beautification Committee;
21and he served as an alderman in Geneva for 21 years and as its
22interim mayor in 1996; and

1    WHEREAS, Paul DesCoteaux was preceded in death by his
2parents, William and Aldea DesCoteaux; his brother, Albert; and
3his granddaughters, Josephine and Margaret; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Paul DesCoteaux is survived by his wife of 60
5years, Terry; his children, Denise (David) Fauntleroy, Paul
6(Kerith) DesCoteaux, Andrea DesCoteaux, David (Beverly)
7DesCoteaux, and Aimee (Daniel) Rogowski; his grandchildren,
8Patrick, Andrew, Reinier, Emily, and Eleanor; his nieces and
9nephews, Diane Peters, Nancy DiRocco (Peter), Gail DesCoteaux,
10David (Annette) DesCoteaux, and Steven DesCoteaux; therefore,
11be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Paul DesCoteaux, and we extend our sincere condolences to his
15family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Paul DesCoteaux as an expression of
19our deepest sympathy.
