SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are deeply
3saddened to learn of the death of Gerald J. Moyar of
4Naperville, who passed away on July 5, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gerald Moyar was born on May 22, 1935, in
6Jeannette, Pennsylvania and grew up in Portsmouth, Virginia; he
7graduated from Petersburg (VA) High School in 1953, where he
8was a first-team all-state football selection his senior year;
9he graduated from Princeton University in 1957, and earned
10advanced degrees from the Department of Theoretical and Applied
11Mechanics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, Gerald Moyar came to Chicago in 1977, to lead a
14cooperative international research program on railroad
15track/train dynamics managed by the Association of American
16Railroads; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Gerald Moyar was recognized by the American
18Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) with their national
19Dedicated Service Award in 1994; during his tenure at the Fox
20Valley Section of the ASME, he gained landmark recognition for
21a diversity of regional sites, including Fermilab's Tevatron
22Collider; in 1999, the Alumni Association of the University of

1Illinois honored him with its Constituent Leadership Award; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Gerald Moyar attended First United Methodist
3Church in Downers Grove, where he developed a strong interest
4and commitment to the Foundations' adult Christian education
5program; he enjoyed communicating with his Princeton
6classmates while serving as the religion editor for the class
7of 1957 alumni web site; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Gerald Moyar enjoyed many years of service to the
9university alumni organizations, religious institutions, and
10professional societies to which he belonged; during the 1990's
11he served on the board of the Chicago Engineers' Foundation,
12Union League Club of Chicago; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Gerald Moyar was preceded in death by his parents,
14George and Jessie Moyar and his sister, Priscilla; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Gerald Moyar was survived by his wife, Ruth; his
16sons, James (Lynelle), Jess(Leslie), and Timothy; his 8
17grandchildren; his sister, Susan Jane Williams (the late David
18Williams) and his brother, George Russell Moyar (Bonnie);
19therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
21ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of

1Gerald Moyar, and we extend our sincere condolences to his
2family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
3further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to the family of Gerald Moyar as an expression of our
6deepest sympathy.
