SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Dr. Norris A. Erickson, who passed away
4on August 20, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Norris Erickson was born on April 6, 1944, in
6Davenport, Iowa; he was the son of Alvin and Lila Erickson; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Dr. Norris Erickson served his country with pride
8as a member of the United States Army from 1965 to 1967; during
9his stint in the Army, he was stationed in Panama as a military
10policeman; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Dr. Norris Erickson graduated from Palmer College
12of Chiropractic in 1972, following in the footsteps of his
13father, mother, and aunt; after graduation, he moved to
14Sandwich, where he joined his aunt, Dr. Jennette Nelson, at her
15chiropractic office; in 1976, he moved to Aurora and opened the
16Erickson Chiropractic Center, one of the largest children's
17practices in Aurora; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Dr. Norris Erickson was one of 33 in the first
19graduating class at Palmer College to receive his LCP from the
20Palmer Legion of Chiropractic Philosophers in 2000; that same
21year, he was awarded with a Fellow in the Palmer Academy of

1Chiropractic for his valued contributions to Palmer College and
2to the advancement of the chiropractic profession; in 2001, he
3was awarded the Distinguished Fellow from the International
4Chiropractic Association in recognition of his outstanding
5contributions to his patients, chiropractics, and humanity in
6general; in 2005, he earned his Diplomate in Philosophical
7Chiropractic Standard from the International Chiropractic
8Association Council of Chiropractic Philosophy; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Dr. Norris Erickson was a long-serving Commander
10on the Roosevelt Aurora Post 84 American Legion; he was a past
11Kane County Commander of the American Legion and Passe Chef de
12Gare of the 40 & 8 elite of the American Legion; he was a member
13of Masonic Lodge #254 and the Aurora Area Shrine Club; he also
14served as a member on the Aurora Airport board for two decades;
15and
 
16    WHEREAS, Dr. Norris Erickson was instrumental in bringing
17the Moving Wall to Aurora in 1989 and in the renaming of
18Veterans Island, as well as the memorial on it dedicated to all
19past, present, and future veterans; he was also instrumental in
20the revival of Aurora's Fourth of July parade; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Dr. Norris Erickson sponsored numerous successful
22softball teams during the 1980's and was referred to by some as
23the George Steinbrenner of the Fox Valley; and

1    WHEREAS, Dr. Norris Erickson is survived by his wife,
2Sally; his daughters, Krista Erickson Tetter, Karsta (Bill)
3Erickson, and Christine (Tom) Watt; his son, Phillip Baratta;
4and his grandchildren, Kyra Erickson Tetter, Kelsen Erickson,
5and Rocco and Anthony Watt; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
8his family and friends, the passing of Dr. Norris A. Erickson;
9and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of Dr. Norris Erickson as an expression
12of our sympathy.
