SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John "Jack" William Kerr of St. Charles,
4who passed away on July 2, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Kerr was born on February 24, 1935, and was
6raised in Jacksonville, Florida; he married Mary Celestia Neder
7in 1960; and
 
8    WHEREAS, John Kerr attended Davidson College, where he
9pledged with Sigma Alpha Epsilon and earned his bachelor's
10degree in economics; and
 
11    WHEREAS, After college, John Kerr joined the United States
12Army, where he was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant, and
13received orders to report for active duty for 2 years; in 1959,
14he was released from active duty and was reassigned to the U.S.
15Army Reserves, where he served in various positions and was
16promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel; he retired from the
17U.S. Army Reserves in 1987 after 30 years of dedicated service;
18and
 
19    WHEREAS, In 1963, John Kerr and his wife moved to St.
20Petersburg, Florida, where he began employment with Allstate
21Insurance Company; he and his family were transferred to

1Marietta, Georgia, in 1980; in 1985, they transferred again to
2St. Charles; he retired from Allstate Insurance Company in 1995
3after 32 years of service; and
 
4    WHEREAS, John Kerr served as a commissioner of the St.
5Charles Park District Board since 1987; he also served as
6president, vice-president, treasurer and secretary of the
7board; he served as a representative and treasurer for the
8Norris Cultural Arts Center Board; he was a representative on
9the Kane County Citizens Advisory Committee, the River Corridor
10Foundation, the Kane County Judicial Center Master Plan
11Committee, and the Fox Valley Special Recreation Association;
12he was an active member of the St. Charles Kiwanis Club and a
13past president of the Benevolent Order of Youthful Seniors
14Club; he served as a Republican precinct committee member; he
15was also a very active member of St. Charles Episcopal Church,
16where he served as a Sunday school teacher, chairman of the
17Stewardship Committee, and senior warden; and
 
18    WHEREAS, John Kerr was preceded in death by his parents,
19Ellen and James Kerr, and his brothers, James K. Kerr Jr. and
20Robert Kerr; and
 
21    WHEREAS, John Kerr is survived by his wife, Mary; his son,
22John William Jr. (Kristen); his daughter, Jennifer Kerr
23Robinson; his grandsons, Joshua Michael and Jacob Thomas; his

1sisters, Virginia Houser and Ellene McKinney; and his many
2nephews, nieces, and friends; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
5his family and friends, the passing of John "Jack" William
6Kerr; and be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to the family of John Kerr as an expression of our
9sympathy.
