SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Robert L. Jensen, known as the Downers
4Grove Village Historian Extraordinaire, World Traveler, and
5Adventurer, who passed away on March 23, 2012; and
 
6    WHEREAS, He was born in Hinsdale to Albert and Alice
7(Sanijster) Jensen of Downers Grove; he spent his youth in
8Downers Grove, graduating from Downers Grove North High School
9in 1948, at which point he went to work for Illinois Bell
10Telephone Company as an installer-repairman, retiring after 34
11years; and
 
12    WHEREAS, During the Korean War he enlisted in the Air
13Force, was shipped overseas to Japan, then sent to Korea;
14following a furlough, he was stationed in Greenville, South
15Carolina, at Donaldson Air Force Base; upon his discharge in
16December 1954 he built a home and settled in Downers Grove; and
 
17    WHEREAS, He enjoyed building many HO gauge model railroads;
18his latest project included building an amusement park with
19rides and refreshment stands in the vicinity of the tracks; he
20also worked tirelessly for the Indian Boundary YMCA, and helped
21to sell Christmas trees on many sub-zero days over the last 30
22years; and

1    WHEREAS, First Presbyterian Church of Downers Grove, his
2church, and which the Jensen family helped to start, was
3another area where he was in his own element of building and
4creating many projects that were needed by the church ministry;
5he was known to be "on call" and worked very hard for the young
6people of the YMCA and the First Presbyterian Church; and
 
7    WHEREAS, After his retirement he had the distinct pleasure
8to take 3 trips around the world; he was also fortunate enough
9to have had the opportunity to visit over 140 foreign
10countries; his main love continued to be talking with others
11individually or on tours about his home town of Downers Grove
12and the Sears Homes that he discovered were built in the area;
13and
 
14    WHEREAS, He earned the title given to him (unofficially) as
15Downers Grove's Historian Extraordinaire, as he continually
16researched information on the town's history; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Robert Jensen is survived by his children, Frances
18Farmer Luczak (Don); Neal Lenius Jensen (Monica); his
19grandchildren, Tyler Luczak and Tyler Jensen; his cousins,
20Carol Ann McHaley (Joe) and Patricia Eisenstraut (Rudy); and
21numerous other relatives; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
3his family and friends, the passing of Robert Jensen; and be it
4further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to the family of Robert Jensen as a symbol of our
7sincere sympathy.
