SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of James E. Fletcher of Burr Ridge, who
4passed away October 24, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was born in Chicago in 1921; and
 
6    WHEREAS, His education at Illinois Wesleyan University was
7interrupted by World War II and his service as a 1st Lieutenant
8in the United States Air Force; he completed his education at
9Northwestern University, earning a bachelor's of science in
10commerce in 1948; and
 
11    WHEREAS, He was a CPA who rose through the ranks at Field
12Enterprises Educational Corp. over 2 decades; he served in
13various affiliated and predecessor companies until being named
14president and chief executive officer of the parent company,
15Field Enterprises Inc., serving from 1970 to 1975; and
 
16    WHEREAS, After retiring in 1975, he attended John Marshall
17School of Law, where he obtained a law degree; he subsequently
18practiced law part-time in both Illinois and Florida, spending
19his winter months in Marco Island, Florida; Mr. Fletcher served
20as the director of several organizations, including National
21Boulevard Bank of Chicago, the Northwestern Club of Chicago,

1Community Family Service and Mental Health Center, The Howard
2V. Phalin Foundation for Graduate Study, and the Chicago Crime
3Commission; and
 
4    WHEREAS, He was a former trustee of the Ravinia Festival
5Association and the Prescott Institute in Prescott, Arizona; he
6also served as director and president of homeowners'
7associations in Burr Ridge and Marco Island; he received a
8Northwestern alumni merit award in 1976; and
 
9    WHEREAS, James Fletcher is survived by his wife of 66
10years, Margaret M., nee Kelley; his children and their
11families, Barbara Fletcher Oursler, James A., Michael W., Mark
12A., and Patricia Fletcher Berkovsky; his 12 grandchildren; and
13his 6 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
16his family and friends, the passing of James Fletcher; and be
17it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of James Fletcher as a symbol of our
20sincere sympathy.
